TIGNES, France — Canada’s Kaya Turski won her third consecutive Winter X Games Tignes gold medal during Wednesday’s Women’s Ski Slopestyle finals and her sixth ESPN X Games event gold. Australia’s Anna Segal and Canada’s Dara Howell took silver and bronze, respectively.

Turski was the first to ever earn a three-peat in Winter X Slopestyle (in January at Aspen), and Wednesday’s win makes her the first X athlete with a double three-peat at two X events.

The 23-year-old Turski won the last five ESPN Slopestyle events: Winter X Aspen (2010-2012) and Winter X Tignes (2010 and 2011).

“It definitely means a lot to me to win two X Games medals this year,” she said. “I hope to keep it up.”

Turski’s second run — a switch 450 onto the box, a 540, a switch left-side 360, and a switch right-side 720 — earned the highest score of the day, a 92.66. On her third and final run, a victory lap, Turski landed a switch 1080 — a trick only she and freeskier Maria Bagge have landed. It was the third time she’s ever landed the trick.

“It wasn’t the prettiest,” Turski said about the 10, “but I got it to my feet.”

Known for her style on rails, Turski said she earned the most points on the rails portion of the course in Tignes, which had six features including three rails and three jumps. “Rails are definitely my forte,” Turski said.

Segal’s second run, which included a switch 540, a right-side 720, and a left-side 720, earned a 91, good enough for a silver medal.

“Kaya always steps it up, so even though I had a good second run, I knew I’d have to step it up on the third run to top Kaya,” Segal said. “I’m just really happy I landed my run.”

Howell, at 17 the youngest in the field and the youngest woman competing at Winter X Tignes, earned her first Winter X medal for third.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I wanted to podium and it worked out.”
